I did manage to get a day in on the Grayling before we went into lockdown. 15 fish came to a mixture of spiders, nymphs and tungsten beaded spiders. Best fish would have been around 1.8 lbs. The River was still running with approx. 2 foot on.
With Christmas well behind us this was my first day out of the New Year and New Season. The River Dee was approximately 18 inches up and carrying very little colour. The day itself was cold and windy and no fly life to be seen anywhere, so the fishing tactics for the day were a Black Sabbath Moment in other words some heavy metal was required. The Grayling were lying close to the bottom so if the needs must you need to get your flies down to them, hence a lot of tungsten was used for flip flopping...
Rob Hartley Chairman of The Grayling Society into another fine fish with his preferred weapon of choice a 13ft rod and centre pin.
Never underestimate the power of bailer twine especially when the sole of your wading boot is hanging off, it saved the day........
Having been unable to fish the Rivers since July 2019 due to weather conditions and River levels I managed to squeeze in a few hours with a close friend Neil Darling and as you can see we managed to find the odd Thymallus Thymallus..... Happy days. ![]()
